Awesome HO Scale BN Model Train Layout in HD – 2-21-2009
Posted on
Take a look at Tim Dickinson's wonderful HO Scale Burlington Northern empire as we follow a grain train, with manned helpers, over the mountain and through numerous yards and staging tracks. While the video shows an overall view of the layout, it's difficult to get appreciation for the quality level of this railroad without actually seeing it in person.

@ClantonBrothers – its a hobby. Im sure you have one and so do they. I spy jealousy maybe? i think so…

@ClantonBrothers let me explain:
1. these men aren’t “playing trains” there modeling one of the fastest growing industries in the U.S.
2. the walkie talkies are for communication purposes
3. there not out cavorting with other women because they appreciate their wives
November 24th, 2011 - 08:43
@ClantonBrothers: Then don’t watch it.

@TrainDr101 like i said before…disturbing
November 24th, 2011 - 09:41
very cool, however,i find it rather disturbing that a bunch of grown men are gathered here “playing trains” with each other, donning walkie-talkies and headsets, and taking this all so seriously. why aren’t they out cavorting with women that aren’t their wives like normal men?

Awesome work. BN is my favorite and this has the look and feel of it.

Real nice model. I’ve always liked BN, my dad baught me my first BN-Train-Set in 1980, Tyco. I have just a little layout, a 4′ x 8′. Never would go overboard, getting the woman to deal with a hobby like that is hard work in its self. Making a train-layout lift by cable helps out too. It uses counter-weights. All that I do is lift it with one hand.

@csx108 We use Logic-Rail system and some custom built electronics. Most of the freight cars have resistors on the wheels that trigger the detections for each block therefore activate the signals. Locomotives don’t need resistors.

What did you use for the rock interface for the scenery?

I’ve always liked to watch trains…but this looks more like an unhealthy obsession….
…It’s awesome! =D
November 24th, 2011 - 12:22

November 24th, 2011 - 12:40

November 24th, 2011 - 13:14

@4312721Michh alot for both questions
November 24th, 2011 - 14:55
@indie1361: Yup. Got CTC signaling, a dispatcher, & radios for all the operators. This layout is as close as it gets to the real thing & it keeps getting better.

My apartment is about half the size as this layout. Worked my whole life to find out that model trains live better than I do! Thanks for sharing.
