Apparently that is a chronic problem with the PIKO motors. I’ve tried cleaning it and bunch of other things. It goes away for little while but keeps coming back. A new motor is next on the list.

gear lube for HO trains works 2 ways silence the noise slow speed down .

This noise is coming from the motor not the gears
the gears are well greased.
